Infrared systems can be used for different purposes such as general visualisation of vehicles and the road, monitoring traffic flow, visualisation of the vehicle number plate so that it can be read and visualisation of the driver’s face. Existing systems for speed detection and prevention of high speed on highways take the reflected image of the target by infrared illumination. Infrared imaging and traffic monitoring are used for road safety, traffic density and signalling purposes. Infrared systems effectively capture traffic images in darkness and bad weather conditions (direct sunlight, strong vehicle headlights, wet ground reflections, fog, haze and smoke).
